Course Information

The Defensive Shotgun course is approximately 2-3 hours of ALL range instruction. We cover the pattern of different shotgun cartridges, defensive shooting techniques, one handed drills, and finish up with shooting from the ground. This course Introduces the power and versatility of the contemporary shotgun in a practical, safe and fun course.

Must be lawfully allowed to train with firearms.

      • Intro to Pump Action and Semi-automatic Shotgun
      • Intro to different shotgun ammunition
      • Features, Functions and Components
      • Various Loading Techniques
      • Marksmanship Fundamentals / from the ground up
      • Employing the Shotgun / various distances
      • Employing the Shotgun / various loads

Required Gear:

Appropriate 12 Gauge or 20 Gauge Pump or Semi-automatic Shotgun (slings are optional but highly encouraged)
Eye and Ear Protection
Sturdy footwear (NO open-toed shoes or sandals)
Minimum of 75 rounds of ‘bird’ shot (#6,#7,#8 etc…), 5 rounds 00 Buck, 5 rounds Slug

Recommended Gear:

Sling
Cap with brim
Sunscreen
Appropriate attire for Arizona weather on private outdoor range
Water and snacks/bag lunch for full training day

Rental Guns and Gear available upon coordinated request.

Our Instructors

A US Army 82nd Airborne Reconnaissance Infantryman, and Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran (2008-2009), I also spend as much time as possible outside hunting and fishing. Having countless hours training with multiple weapon platforms from crew served weapons to pistols, and having trained military, law enforcement, and civilians. I organized Diamondback Training Center’s teaching methodology following Murphy’s law, and taking equal portions of military, law enforcement, and civilian training environments to give our students the best experience possible.

A Former US Marine, Roan Grimm has dedicated his life to the study of the grim realities of violent close combat.  With 35+ years of martial arts, the past 27 of which have been focused on the weapon intensive Filipino martial arts (arnis/eskrima/kali) and WWII era American combatives (scientific dirty fighting). With over 125 real contact stick fights with the world renown Dog Brothers, Grimm has tested the theories of actual fighting with impact weapons at a level few can approach.
